About Maulana Azad International School | Barsoi

When I first visited Maulana Azad International School back in 2016, I was struck by how the campus felt more like a small town than a typical school. It sits on a spacious plot at Azad Nagar along NH 31, just a short drive from the heart of Katihar and about a hundred kilometres from Siliguri. The buildings are new enough that the classrooms have good lighting and ventilation, and there are separate hostels for boys and girls as well as day‑student facilities. With around six hundred children from the surrounding districts, the atmosphere is lively but never chaotic; you can hear the chatter of younger kids in the playground while older students are in the library or the science labs.

Academically the school follows the CBSE curriculum, but they go a step further by offering extra coaching for the board exams and competitive tests. What I appreciate most is how the teachers balance the textbook work with real‑world applications – a maths teacher will take the time to explain how a concept is used in engineering, while the language teachers encourage students to read beyond the prescribed chapters. Most of the staff are certified and have several years of experience, and many came to MAIS because they share the founder’s vision of education that is grounded in strong moral values. The principal makes it clear that discipline and respect are not just slogans; they are part of daily routine, and the teachers model that in every interaction.

Families keep sending their children here because they see the results and feel a genuine sense of security. The school’s record in board exams has been steady, and several students have earned places in reputable colleges. Beyond the numbers, parents talk about how their kids return home with a better sense of responsibility and confidence. The residential side is well‑managed, with staff who look after the students round the clock, and the day‑school side runs on a schedule that
