Sainik School | Kunjpura

Teaching at Sainion School Kunjpura feels like being part of a living history that stretches back to the early sixties. Every morning I walk past the old Punjab Police Academy building, its red brick walls reminding me of the school’s military roots, before heading into a smart classroom where interactive boards and high‑speed internet sit alongside the disciplined cadence of the daily assemblies. The campus spreads over 275 acres of green fields, and the sheer scale of the place gives a sense of freedom that is rare in most schools. The air is crisp in Karnal, and the sound of birds from the lake near the library often mixes with the clatter of pens as students tackle their CBSE syllabus with a seriousness that mirrors their ambition to join the armed forces.

Our students are a mix of aspiring officers, budding engineers, and curious minds who have chosen the residential life because they want structure and challenge. They arrive from all corners of Haryana and beyond, each carrying a determination that pushes them to excel in academics, sports, and leadership drills. In the classroom they are attentive, asking probing questions about physics experiments or the nuances of a Shakespearean soliloquy, yet they are equally comfortable in the synthetic tennis court or the riding school where they learn balance and confidence. The culture is competitive but supportive; seniors often mentor juniors, and the teachers act as both educators and role models, guiding them through the rigors of the CBSE board exams and the demanding SSB preparation.

A typical day for a teacher here begins with a brief physical training session—sometimes a quick jog around the parade ground, sometimes a drill in the obstacle course—followed by a full schedule of lessons, lab work, and occasional counseling periods. After classes, we might head to the 700‑seat Manekshaw Auditorium for a cultural program, or supervise a study group in the library that holds more than just textbooks; it houses journals, old service manuals, and a collection of biographies that inspire our students. Evenings often involve reviewing lesson plans, grading papers, and meeting with the housemasters to discuss a student’s progress or a forthcoming inter‑school competition. The workload is steady, but the camaraderie among the faculty, many of whom have served in the defence services, makes it feel like a close‑knit community rather than a job.

What sets Sainik School Kunjpura apart for a teacher is the blend of disciplined routine and the freedom
