Job Description

TGT Social Science Teacher Job in Srinagar, Jammu And Kashmir | School Recruitment

Job Overview

Rp Nagbal Higher Sec. School in Srinagar North is looking for a TGT Social Science Teacher who can bring history, geography, and civics to life for students in a valley where every lesson connects to their daily surroundings. The school serves a diverse student community from across Srinagar, many of whom see their own neighborhoods reflected in the textbooks they study. Your role will shape how they view the past, understand the present, and imagine the future.

Your Students

You will teach students from Classes 6 to 8, many of whom come from families with deep roots in Kashmir’s cultural and political landscape. Your classroom will include children who speak Kashmiri, Urdu, and English at home, so clarity in explanation and sensitivity to local contexts matter. Your lessons should help them see the relevance of Social Science beyond exams—whether through local case studies, map work of Jammu & Kashmir, or discussions on civic duties in their mohallas.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging Social Science lessons for TGT classes, aligning with the J&K Board curriculum and using local examples wherever possible. Incorporate stories of Kashmir’s heritage, geography of the Himalayas, and constitutional values in ways that resonate with young learners. Prepare weekly and monthly teaching plans in advance and share them with the academic coordinator for feedback.

Conduct regular formative assessments through quizzes, map exercises, and short written responses to identify learning gaps. Use simple rubrics to track progress in map reading, timeline creation, and answer-writing skills. Share feedback with parents during informal meet-ups or through WhatsApp groups for Classes 6 to 8.

Organize at least two inter-house Social Science fairs or quiz competitions each academic year to encourage teamwork and deeper exploration of topics like environmental conservation or constitutional rights. Involve students in preparing charts, models, and short skits based on historical or geographical themes relevant to Kashmir.

Maintain updated teaching-learning material (TLM) like flashcards, puzzles, and local case studies in the Social Science corner of the resource room. Use government-approved textbooks and supplement them with short video clips or news clippings about current events in J&K.

Collaborate with the History and Geography departments to plan cross-subject projects, such as tracing the Silk Route or studying the Indus Valley Civilization with a focus on Kashmir’s archaeological sites. Attend monthly subject meetings to align teaching strategies and share best practices.

Ensure all classroom displays, bulletin boards, and corridor maps are accurate and visually appealing, reflecting the latest syllabus topics. Use student work to decorate walls and encourage pride in their learning.

Participate in school events like Independence Day, Republic Day, and local festivals by designing age-appropriate activities that connect Social Science concepts to celebrations in Srinagar.

Who Can Apply

Candidates with a postgraduate degree in Social Science (History, Geography, Political Science, or Sociology) from a recognized university. A B.Ed or D.El.Ed is mandatory for this TGT Social Science Teacher Vacancy in Srinagar. At least three years of full-time teaching experience in a secondary school is required. Familiarity with the J&K Board syllabus is preferred.

Skills We Value

Strong command of English and Urdu/Kashmiri for explaining concepts clearly to diverse learners. Ability to simplify complex ideas like federalism, landforms, or cultural heritage into relatable examples. Patience in addressing doubts and encouraging shy students to participate in discussions.

Experience in using low-cost teaching aids such as charts, models, and role-plays to explain topics like the Kashmir conflict or environmental issues. Comfort with basic digital tools like PowerPoint or Canva for creating simple presentations or worksheets.

What You Get

This full-time TGT Social Science Teacher in Srinagar, J&K position offers a monthly salary between Rs.25,000 and Rs.50,000, based on qualifications and experience. The package includes standard school holidays aligned with the J&K Board calendar and access to the school’s resource room for teaching materials.
