Compiler Design - Assistant Professor Vacancy in Dehradun, Uttarakhand
Tulas Institute
Job Description
About This Role
The Department of Computer Science at Tulas Institute is expanding its academic and research footprint in Compiler Design. With a growing reputation in technical education, the department offers a dynamic environment for faculty who wish to contribute to both teaching and advanced research. The role is designed for scholars who can lead courses, mentor students, and advance knowledge in compiler theory, optimization, and programming language design.
What You Will Do
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Compiler Design, ensuring alignment with UGC and AICTE standards. Develop and update curriculum content, including lab assignments and project-based learning modules, to reflect current industry trends and research advancements.
Engage in high-impact research, publishing in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science. Collaborate with national and international institutions on joint research projects, especially those aligned with emerging domains like AI-driven compilation and energy-efficient code generation.
Supervise student projects, internships, and dissertations in Compiler Design. Encourage undergraduate students to participate in national-level technical competitions such as Smart India Hackathon or ACM programming contests.
Contribute to curriculum design and accreditation processes for NBA or NAAC. Participate in academic committees, including board of studies and faculty recruitment panels. Organize workshops, seminars, and invited talks by industry experts in compiler technologies.
Engage in consultancy projects with local IT firms in Dehradun and surrounding regions. Develop case studies and teaching aids using open-source compiler tools like LLVM, GCC, or ANTLR.
Who Can Apply
A Ph.D. in Computer Science with specialization in Compiler Design or closely related areas is mandatory. Candidates with post-doctoral research experience will be preferred, especially those from IITs, NITs, or recognized universities.
For candidates without a Ph.D., UGC-NET with JRF in Computer Science is acceptable, provided they complete the Ph.D. within three years of appointment as per UGC norms. A minimum of one year of teaching or research experience in Compiler Design is required.
Strong publication record in journals of repute is desirable. Familiarity with programming language standards (e.g., C++, Rust, Python) and compiler construction tools is essential.
Research Opportunities
Tulas Institute encourages interdisciplinary research in Compiler Design, with opportunities to collaborate on projects funded by agencies such as SERB, DST, or CSIR. Faculty can apply for seed grants and travel support to present research at international conferences like PLDI or CGO.
The university provides access to high-performance computing facilities for simulation and benchmarking of compiler algorithms. Researchers can publish in journals like ACM Transactions on Architecture and Code Optimization or IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering.
Industry partnerships with local tech parks and global IT firms offer opportunities for applied research in compiler optimization for low-power devices. Students often assist in these projects, providing hands-on research experience.
Ph.D. Supervision
The department invites applications from scholars interested in guiding doctoral students in Compiler Design. Responsibilities include formulating research problems, reviewing literature, and guiding students through thesis development and defense.
Faculty are expected to mentor at least two Ph.D. scholars during their tenure. Participation in doctoral committees at other institutions is also encouraged, fostering academic collaboration across Uttarakhand.
Thesis evaluation and external examiner roles for Ph.D. candidates at Tulas Institute and other universities are part of the academic responsibilities. Guidance in publishing research findings in top-tier venues is expected.
Salary and Benefits
The ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Compiler Design position at Tulas Institute offers a monthly salary between Rs.40,000 and Rs.55,000, as per UGC norms. Additional research grants are available for conference participation and project work.
Faculty members receive support for professional development, including short-term courses and workshops at premier institutions. Access to university-funded journals, digital libraries, and cloud computing resources is provided.
Medical insurance and accommodation assistance may be available based on university policies. Participation in academic exchange programs with international partners is encouraged for career growth.
