ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - Agricultural Extension in Dehradun, Uttarakhand | University Recruitment
Role Summary
Tulas Institute invites applications for the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Agricultural Extension position in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The Department of Agricultural Extension at Tulas Institute is known for blending traditional farming wisdom with modern agri-extension techniques. Key Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, and Extension Methodologies to students in Dehradun. Design and deliver practical training sessions on participatory rural appraisal and farm advisory systems in the Himalayan foothills. Contribute to curriculum development aligned with UGC norms and ICAR competency frameworks for agricultural extension professionals.
Lead research projects on farm innovation diffusion, ICT-based extension, and gender-inclusive extension services in mountain ecosystems. Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science, with preference for open-access platforms. Secure external funding from ICAR, DBT, or state agriculture departments for field-based extension interventions.
Engage with district agriculture offices, NGOs, and cooperative societies to implement on-ground extension programs in Uttarakhand. Supervise M.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars in Agricultural Extension, guiding their thesis work from proposal to final submission. Evaluate doctoral theses and serve on research committees as per UGC guidelines.
Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension or Rural Development is mandatory for the Agricultural Extension Assistant Professor Job in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Candidates with a post-doctoral fellowship in agri-extension or related fields will receive preference during selection. NET qualification with JRF is required if Ph.D. is not completed, in accordance with UGC norms.
Preference will be given to candidates with proven teaching experience in agricultural universities or ICAR institutes. Exposure to hill agriculture, tribal farming systems, or Himalayan socio-ecology is highly desirable for this role. Familiarity with UGC’s Academic Performance Indicators and NAAC documentation processes is beneficial.
Research & Publications
Develop collaborative research projects with national and international agencies on climate-resilient extension strategies for mountain farming communities. Explore funding avenues through ICAR’s National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) and RKVY-RAFTAAR for Dehradun-based initiatives. Publish at least two research papers annually in Scopus/WoS indexed journals on extension education and rural innovation diffusion.
Present research findings at national seminars such as the Indian Society for Extension Education (ISEE) annual conference. Contribute to policy briefs on agri-extension reforms for Uttarakhand’s agriculture department. Build partnerships with KVKs in Dehradun, Haridwar, and Tehri districts for field-level validation of extension models.
Doctoral Guidance
Guide doctoral students in designing research proposals on participatory extension, ICT in agriculture, or farmer producer organizations in the Himalayas. Serve as an external examiner for Ph.D. evaluations at other agricultural universities in northern India.
