PROFESSOR - Renewable Energy in Dehradun, Uttarakhand | University Recruitment
Role Summary
The Renewable Energy department at Tulas Institute, Dehradun is expanding its research footprint in solar, wind, bioenergy and green hydrogen technologies. The department has filed three patents in the last two years and maintains collaborations with TERI Delhi and IIT Roorkee. A professor in Renewable Energy will strengthen these initiatives and mentor junior faculty.
Day-to-Day Duties
Teach core courses such as Solar Photovoltaics, Wind Energy Systems and Energy Storage Technologies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Deliver advanced electives on Grid Integration of Renewables and Policy Frameworks for Sustainable Energy Transition.
Publish at least two peer-reviewed papers annually in journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science; guide students in writing conference papers for national and international events. Organize an annual Renewable Energy Symposium on campus that invites industry speakers and alumni.
Coordinate with external agencies to secure sponsored projects; prepare proposals aligned to MNRE and DST funding schemes. Oversee laboratory upgrades for new solar test benches and battery characterization stations.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Renewable Energy, Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems or a closely related field from a recognized university. Post-doctoral research in any renewable domain is highly desirable.
For candidates without a Ph.D., UGC-NET with JRF in Environmental Sciences, Energy Studies or Engineering will be considered, provided they complete the doctorate within three years of joining Tulas Institute. Minimum teaching experience of six years at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent is required.
Academic Projects
Tulas Institute is currently collaborating with the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency on a 5 MW floating solar pilot at the Dhalipur lake. The professor will lead data collection, techno-economic analysis and policy recommendations for scaling the model across Himalayan reservoirs.
Funding opportunities exist through DST’s Clean Energy Research Initiative and DBT’s Advanced Bioenergy Grants. Recent projects include a Rs. 45 lakh grant for bio-methanation of agro-residues in Uttarakhand villages. The professor will spearhead proposal drafting and consortium building with local NGOs.
Doctoral Guidance
Supervise a minimum of six doctoral scholars registered under the Energy Science programme. Assist students in topic finalization, literature survey and ethical approval processes. Serve on doctoral committees for external candidates and conduct thesis pre-submission reviews.
Perks and Pay
The monthly salary ranges from Rs.70,000 to Rs.120,000 as per UGC norms for Professor positions. Additional research grants up to Rs.10 lakh per year are available through internal seed funds and external sponsors.
Faculty members receive reimbursement for attending national conferences and a one-time relocation allowance for moving to Dehradun. Tulas Institute provides furnished accommodation on campus at subsidized rates and covers annual medical insurance for the family.
