Industrial Mathematics - Professor Vacancy in Rahe, Ranchi, Jharkhand
Cambridge institute of technology
Job Description
About This Role
The Department of Industrial Mathematics at Cambridge Institute Of Technology is a dynamic hub for applied research and advanced teaching. Known for its focus on solving real-world industrial problems, the department enjoys strong ties with local industries in Jharkhand and beyond. Its faculty regularly publishes in top-tier journals and collaborates on national projects, making it a preferred choice for students and researchers alike.
What You Will Do
Teach advanced courses in Industrial Mathematics, including mathematical modeling, optimization, and statistical quality control, to postgraduate students. Design and deliver lectures that blend theoretical rigor with practical applications relevant to current industrial needs in Ranchi and eastern India.
Guide final-year M.Sc. and M.Tech. students in their dissertation projects, ensuring alignment with ongoing research themes in the department. Supervise at least three batches of theses during the first three years, fostering independent research capabilities among students.
Publish original research in Scopus/Web of Science indexed journals, with at least two papers per year expected. Focus on areas such as operations research, reliability engineering, or data-driven industrial modeling.
Develop and lead funded academic projects in collaboration with regional industries and government agencies. Secure external grants to support student internships and research assistantships.
Participate in curriculum design, including the introduction of new electives like “Industrial Stochastic Processes” or “Computational Techniques in Manufacturing.”
Organize national seminars and workshops on emerging trends in Industrial Mathematics, often in partnership with institutions like BIT Mesra or IIT Dhanbad.
Serve on departmental and university committees related to research promotion, faculty recruitment, and student welfare. Represent the department at inter-university academic forums across Jharkhand.
Engage with local industries through consultancy assignments, especially in sectors like mining, steel, and renewable energy. Offer mathematical solutions to process optimization challenges faced by firms in Ranchi and nearby industrial belts.
Who Can Apply
A Ph.D. in Industrial Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field from a recognized university is mandatory. Post-doctoral research experience in a relevant domain is strongly preferred.
Candidates with UGC-NET with JRF or equivalent national eligibility (e.g., CSIR-NET in Mathematical Sciences) will be given preference, especially if Ph.D. is not yet completed.
Minimum five years of full-time teaching or research experience in a university or research institute is required. Experience in guiding Ph.D. students is desirable.
Academic Projects
Cambridge Institute Of Technology actively supports interdisciplinary research projects that bridge mathematics and industrial applications. The department has ongoing collaborations with Tata Steel, HEC Ranchi, and Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA).
Potential areas for project funding include predictive maintenance modeling, supply chain optimization, and AI-driven quality control in manufacturing units. Faculty are encouraged to apply for DST-SERB, UGC, or industry-sponsored grants.
Regular publications in journals like Applied Mathematical Modelling, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, and International Journal of Production Economics are expected. The university provides financial support for open-access publishing and conference participation.
Ph.D. Supervision
As a Professor, you will guide doctoral students in their thesis work, from topic selection to final submission. Assist in framing research proposals aligned with both academic rigor and industrial relevance.
Participate in the evaluation of Ph.D. theses and serve on doctoral committees at Cambridge Institute Of Technology and other universities. Encourage students to publish parts of their research in peer-reviewed journals.
Provide mentorship to research scholars, including guidance on data collection, software tools (MATLAB, R, Python), and presentation skills for national conferences.
Perks and Pay
The salary for this Professor position in Industrial Mathematics at Cambridge Institute Of Technology ranges from Rs.60,000 to Rs.90,000 per month, as per UGC norms for state universities in Jharkhand.
Additional benefits include furnished housing on campus (optional), medical reimbursement, and travel grants for presenting research at national and international conferences.
Research funding of up to Rs.2,00,000 per year is available for approved projects, with additional support for student stipends and equipment. The university also offers reimbursement for professional society memberships.
