Transportation Engineering - Professor Vacancy in Rahe, Ranchi, Jharkhand
Cambridge institute of technology
Job Description
About This Role
The Department of Civil Engineering at Cambridge Institute Of Technology is seeking a distinguished PROFESSOR in Transportation Engineering to strengthen its academic and research profile. With a legacy of fostering innovation in engineering education, the department is recognized for its contributions to sustainable infrastructure development and smart mobility solutions. The role demands leadership in shaping curricula, mentoring scholars, and advancing high-impact research in alignment with national priorities such as Bharatmala and Sagarmala initiatives.
Candidates are expected to bring a strong publication record and proven expertise in areas like traffic engineering, pavement materials, intelligent transport systems, and logistics optimization. The institution values interdisciplinary collaboration, and the successful applicant will have opportunities to engage with industry partners, government agencies, and international research networks through Cambridge Institute Of Technology’s Centre for Transportation Studies.
Day-to-Day Duties
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Transportation Engineering, including Highway Engineering, Traffic Flow Theory, and Transport Economics, ensuring alignment with UGC model curricula and industry standards. Develop and deliver advanced electives such as Smart Cities and Geospatial Applications in Transportation to meet evolving academic demands.
Lead research initiatives focusing on low-cost pavement technologies, road safety audits, and carbon-efficient logistics, publishing findings in Scopus-indexed journals and presenting at national conferences such as the Indian Roads Congress. Supervise doctoral students from enrollment to thesis submission, guiding them through research design, field data collection, and analytical modeling using tools like VISSIM, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and MATLAB.
Contribute to the development of funded academic projects in partnership with agencies like NHAI, MoRTH, and state PWD departments, preparing proposals that address regional challenges such as hilly terrain road construction and monsoon-induced pavement failures in Jharkhand.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in Transportation Engineering or a closely related field from a UGC-recognized university, with a minimum of five years of full-time teaching and research experience at the postgraduate level. A strong record of publications in SCI/Scopus journals and prior supervision of at least two PhD scholars is essential.
Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral research experience, international collaborations, and funded projects under schemes such as DST-SERB, ICSSR, or industry-sponsored grants. Those without a PhD must possess a valid UGC-NET/JRF qualification and meet the Assistant Professor eligibility criteria as per UGC norms.
Academic Projects
Cambridge Institute Of Technology offers multiple avenues for sponsored research, including collaborations with the Jharkhand State Road Development Corporation and private logistics firms operating in East India. Faculty are encouraged to apply for grants under the IMPRINT India initiative, focusing on rural connectivity and last-mile delivery optimization.
Recent departmental projects include a DST-funded study on the use of plastic waste in bituminous pavements and an industry partnership to develop a GIS-based accident hotspot mapping system for Ranchi’s urban corridors. Opportunities exist to lead inter-institutional consortia under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS).
Research Leadership
The PROFESSOR will serve as a key member of the university’s Doctoral Research Committee, evaluating thesis proposals and conducting viva voce examinations across civil engineering sub-disciplines. Mentorship responsibilities include guiding PhD candidates in publishing their work in journals indexed by Web of Science and presenting at international conferences such as TRB Annual Meeting.
Active participation in peer review for journals like the Journal of Transportation Engineering and the Indian Geotechnical Journal is expected, along with involvement in academic bodies such as the Indian Roads Congress and the Institution of Engineers (India).
Perks and Pay
The position offers a consolidated monthly salary in the range of Rs.60,000 to Rs.90,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience as per UGC Seventh Pay Commission norms for Professor grade in state-funded universities. Additional benefits include research contingency grants, subsidized on-campus housing, and access to high-performance computing facilities.
Cambridge Institute Of Technology provides financial support for attending national and international conferences, along with opportunities to avail of professional development funds for short-term courses in emerging areas like connected autonomous vehicles and electric vehicle infrastructure planning.
