Role Overview
As the school’s Psychological Counsellor, you will be the primary point of contact for students, parents and staff on mental health and emotional well‑being matters. Your day‑to‑day activities will involve assessing student needs, creating individual support plans and monitoring progress. You will also advise school leadership on policies that promote a healthy learning environment.
Student Support
Conduct confidential counselling sessions for students facing academic, social or personal challenges. Use evidence‑based techniques to help them develop coping strategies. Maintain detailed records of assessments, interventions and follow‑ups in compliance with school policies.
Family and Staff Engagement
Meet with parents to discuss student progress and provide guidance on home‑school collaboration. Offer brief workshops for teachers on recognizing early signs of distress and effective classroom strategies. Serve as a liaison between school and external mental health services when additional support is required.
Program Development
Design and implement school‑wide initiatives such as stress‑management workshops, peer‑support groups and awareness campaigns. Coordinate with school administration to integrate mental‑health objectives into the overall curriculum and extracurricular activities.
Data Management
Track student well‑being metrics, prepare reports for the school board and contribute to the annual review of student support services. Ensure all documentation meets confidentiality standards and legal requirements.
Collaboration and Leadership
Work closely with the principal, guidance department and student council to foster a supportive school culture. Lead the school’s crisis response team during emergencies, providing immediate psychological first aid and coordinating follow‑up care.
Professional Development
Stay updated on best practices in school psychology through workshops, seminars and peer networking. Share insights with school staff to enhance the overall mental health framework.
