About Sherwood Higher Secondary School | Tura

Nestled in the quiet lanes of Danakgre, just a short walk from the bustling market of Tura in West Garo Hills, Sherwood Higher Secondary School has become a familiar landmark for families in the area. The neighborhood, with its rolling hills and tea‑garden fringes, feels a little tighter every time a child comes home with a story about a school assembly or a new project in the computer lab. Since its doors first opened on February 6, 1986, the school has woven itself into the fabric of the community, offering a place where children from the surrounding villages and the town itself meet, learn and grow together.

The school follows the Meghalaya Board of School Education curriculum, delivering lessons entirely in English from the pre‑primary level up through Class XII, where students can choose Arts or Commerce streams. The classrooms are bright and well‑ventilated, and the library, stocked with around five thousand books, is a favorite spot for anyone who loves to read. Teachers, led by Headmistress Tasha A. B. Sawkmie, are known for being approachable and dedicated; many parents recall how Mr. Tyrone D’Brass, one of the founders, still drops by to talk with students and share his decades of experience. The school’s motto, “Deeds not Words,” is visible on the walls and seems to guide everyday life, from the way lessons are taught to the way the staff organizes community events.

What really sets Sherwood apart is its track record in the state examinations. Year after year the school produces top‑rankers in the MBOSE SSLC exams, with students like Anuj Chetry and Samridhya Das achieving the highest marks in the whole state. The combination of a solid academic foundation, well‑maintained facilities such as computer‑aided learning modules, and a genuine sense of belonging makes the school a point of pride for Tura. For many families here, Sherwood is not just a place to study; it is the heart of the neighbourhood where achievements are celebrated and future aspirations are nurtured.
