Music (TGT) Vacancy in Cuttack, Odisha
St. Xaviers High School
Job Description
Job Overview
St. Xaviers High School in Cuttack is looking for a TGT Music Teacher to join our vibrant student community. The school serves families across Odisha’s cultural heartland, where music education bridges traditional Odissi ragas with modern school ensembles. A teacher who can blend discipline with creativity will find eager learners in Grades 6 to 10, ready to perform at school functions and compete in inter-school festivals.
Your Students
Our students come from diverse backgrounds in Cuttack—engineers’ children, artists’ wards, and first-generation learners—all united by a curiosity for melody. Many arrive with basic vocal training at home; others discover rhythm for the first time in class. Your role is to shape their confidence, whether they’re singing the school prayer, playing the tabla for annual day, or composing simple tunes for science exhibitions. Parent expectations are high, especially after last year’s zonal music competition where our junior choir reached the semifinals.
Key Responsibilities
Plan weekly lessons that align with CBSE’s music syllabus and include both vocal and instrumental practice. Teach Carnatic and Hindustani basics alongside staff notation so students can read simple compositions independently.
Conduct bi-monthly assessments using oral tests, written notation drills, and practical performances to track progress. Share concise feedback with parents during PTMs in Odia or English as needed.
Organize monthly assemblies where students perform solo or in groups, preparing them for bigger stages like the inter-school Rabindra Sangeet competition.
Train a 15-member junior orchestra using available instruments—harmonium, tabla, and a borrowed keyboard—culminating in a December concert for grandparents’ day.
Collaborate with the art teacher to link ragas with folk art forms like Pattachitra patterns, creating cross-disciplinary projects.
Prepare 30–40 students for practical exams in March, ensuring 90% meet the passing criteria set by the board.
Attend weekly staff meetings to coordinate with subject heads and share repertoire ideas for morning assembly songs.
Required Qualifications
Postgraduate degree in Music (Vocal/Instrumental) with a minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in a secondary school. Preference for candidates who have completed B.Ed or M.Ed with music specialization.
Fluency in Odia and English is essential for classroom instruction and parent interactions. Experience with Indian classical, light classical, or school band setups is a plus.
What Makes You a Fit
If you’ve ever taught a shy Class 7 student to hold a tanpura steadily or guided a batch of Class 9 boys through a thumri rendition for Annual Day, you understand the patience required. St. Xaviers High School values teachers who can turn limited resources into memorable learning—like converting the school courtyard into a rehearsal space when the music room is booked.
Salary and Benefits
The Music Teacher Vacancy in Cuttack offers a full-time position with a salary between Rs.25,000 and Rs.40,000 per month based on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include subsidized canteen access, annual festival allowances, and support for professional development in music education.
