Job Overview

United University’s Department of Botany is a growing hub for plant sciences in North India, known for its blend of classical taxonomy and modern biotechnology research. The department houses well-equipped labs, a herbarium with over 5,000 specimens, and collaborations with national institutions like CSIR-NBRI and ICAR. Our faculty regularly publish in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, contributing to global botanical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in plant systematics, physiology, ecology, and biotechnology at United University. Develop and deliver lectures, practicals, and field-based learning experiences aligned with UGC curricula and NEP 2020 guidelines.

Design and deliver advanced courses in plant molecular biology, biodiversity conservation, and bioinformatics for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. Prepare lecture notes, lab manuals, and e-content for blended learning platforms used across United University.

Lead research projects funded by DST-SERB, UGC, or CSIR in areas like medicinal plants, climate-resilient crops, or plant-microbe interactions. Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.

Supervise M.Sc. dissertations and guide doctoral students through their thesis work at United University. Serve on doctoral committees and participate in viva voce examinations for Ph.D. candidates.

Who Can Apply

A Ph.D. in Botany or Plant Sciences from a recognized university is mandatory for this PROFESSOR Job in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Post-doctoral research experience is strongly preferred, especially in applied plant sciences or interdisciplinary fields.

Candidates with UGC-NET with JRF or CSIR-NET qualification will be given preference. Minimum 5 years of teaching and research experience in a university or research institution is required.

Experience in guiding Ph.D. students and handling externally funded projects is essential. Familiarity with NMC/MCI or UGC norms for laboratory safety and ethical research is expected.

Research & Publications

United University encourages collaborative research in plant bioprospecting, ethnobotany, and sustainable agriculture. Faculty members are supported in applying for DST, DBT, and ICAR research grants to strengthen departmental facilities.

Opportunities exist to lead projects on lesser-known medicinal plants of the Vindhyan region, in collaboration with local tribal communities and government agencies. Research output should include publications in Scopus/WoS journals and patents where applicable.

Present research findings at conferences like the Indian Botanical Society annual meet or international symposia on plant diversity. United University provides financial support for conference participation and open-access publication fees.

Doctoral Guidance

Guide doctoral students in formulating research proposals, conducting fieldwork, and analyzing data using modern statistical tools. Ensure ethical compliance in plant collection and experimentation as per institutional and UGC norms.

Evaluate Ph.D. theses and serve as external examiner for other universities. Contribute to the growth of the university’s doctoral program by mentoring scholars from diverse academic backgrounds.

Encourage interdisciplinary research, such as linking plant sciences with environmental studies or biotechnology, to enhance academic rigor at United University.

What You Get

The selected candidate will receive a monthly salary between Rs.70,000 and Rs.90,000 as per UGC 7th Pay Commission norms. Additional research grants are available for approved projects and conference participation.
