About This Role

What You Will Do
Teach advanced courses in microbial physiology, virology, immunology, and recombinant DNA technology for postgraduate students. Design and deliver lectures, laboratory sessions, and seminars aligned with UGC curriculum standards. Curriculum development will include emerging topics like CRISPR-Cas systems and microbiome engineering.
Lead independent research projects funded by SERB, DBT, or ICMR with a goal of high-impact publications in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Collaborate with the university’s bioprocess lab to translate microbial enzymes into industrial applications. Mentor students in publishing research papers and presenting at national seminars.
Guide doctoral students in formulating research proposals, conducting experiments, and writing theses. Supervise at least three Ph.D. scholars during the initial three-year period. Serve on doctoral committees for external candidates from neighboring universities in Varanasi and Gorakhpur.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Microbiology or Biotechnology from a recognized university with a minimum of five years of post-Ph.D. teaching or research experience. Candidates with post-doctoral training in microbial genomics or synthetic biology will receive preference during selection. UGC-NET with JRF qualification is mandatory unless exempted under UGC regulations.
A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals with at least 20 research articles in the last five years is expected. Experience in handling extramural research grants from national agencies is desirable. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and next-generation sequencing platforms is an added advantage.
Academic Projects
United University encourages faculty to initiate collaborative projects with national laboratories and private sector partners. Potential areas include development of rapid diagnostic kits for tropical diseases and microbial biosensors for heavy metal detection. Proposals can be submitted to SERB’s CRG scheme or DBT’s NER-BPMC program.
The university provides seed grants of up to Rs.10 lakh for new faculty projects in the first year. Faculty members are supported in applying for major grants under the IoE scheme and UGC-SAP program. Regular workshops on grant writing and manuscript preparation are organized by the research cell.
Journal publications remain a key metric for performance review. Faculty are expected to publish at least two papers annually in journals with impact factor above 2.5. Co-authorship with students is encouraged to build a strong academic portfolio. Open-access publishing support is provided through university partnerships.

What You Get
