About This Role
United University invites applications for the position of Professor in Nutrition And Dietetics. The Department of Nutrition And Dietetics at United University has established itself as a centre of excellence in academic research and community nutrition interventions across Uttar Pradesh. The department regularly publishes in peer-reviewed journals and collaborates with state health missions and international agencies on public health nutrition projects.
The role demands sustained contribution to advanced research in clinical nutrition, public health nutrition, and dietary epidemiology. Faculty members are expected to lead research groups, secure external funding, and mentor students at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The university encourages interdisciplinary projects linking nutrition with Ayurveda, biochemistry, and social sciences.
Day-To-Day Duties
Teaching responsibilities include designing and delivering courses in clinical nutrition, therapeutic diets, public health nutrition, and research methodology for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. Courses must align with UGC norms and incorporate recent advances in precision nutrition and digital health tools. Classroom instruction is supplemented by laboratory sessions, field visits to community nutrition centres, and hospital-based case studies.
Research expectations involve conceptualising and executing funded projects, supervising research scholars, and publishing findings in Scopus/WoS indexed journals. Faculty must maintain an active grant portfolio through agencies such as ICMR, DST, or WHO country office. Regular participation in national and international conferences is encouraged to present ongoing work and forge collaborations.
Publication targets include at least three peer-reviewed papers per year, with emphasis on high-impact journals in nutrition science. Faculty are also expected to develop evidence-based modules for continuing education programmes aimed at dietitians and public health workers across Uttar Pradesh. Reviewing manuscripts for national journals forms part of the academic service contribution.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Nutrition And Dietetics or a closely related field from a UGC-recognised university. Post-doctoral research experience in clinical or public health nutrition is strongly preferred. Candidates without post-doctoral experience must have cleared UGC-NET with JRF or equivalent national eligibility tests such as CSIR-NET or ICMR-JRF.
Minimum teaching experience of five years at the level of Associate Professor or Assistant Professor in a university or autonomous college is required. Practical experience in hospital dietetics, community nutrition programmes, or food service management is desirable. Familiarity with statistical software such as SPSS, R, or Stata is necessary for research supervision.
Academic Projects
United University encourages faculty to lead multi-year projects funded by national and international agencies. Recent initiatives include a DST-sponsored study on micronutrient deficiencies in school children across Allahabad district and an ICMR-funded project on dietary interventions for type 2 diabetes in rural Uttar Pradesh. Faculty are supported in preparing proposals, budgeting, and compliance reporting.
The department maintains collaborations with AIIMS Prayagraj, SGPGI Lucknow, and regional nutrition centres. Joint publications with clinicians and epidemiologists have appeared in journals such as the Indian Journal of Medical Research and Public Health Nutrition. Faculty are also encouraged to engage with NGOs and district health authorities for field-based interventions.
Doctoral Guidance
As a Professor at United University, you will guide doctoral students from proposal development through thesis submission and viva voce. Each scholar is assigned an individualised research plan covering literature review, methodology, data collection, and analysis. Thesis evaluation panels include external experts nominated by UGC or the affiliating university.
Faculty are expected to present research progress annually at the university’s Doctoral Colloquium. Doctoral students often present their findings at national conferences, with travel support provided by the university. Joint supervision arrangements with overseas universities are encouraged under international collaborations.
Salary and Benefits
The monthly consolidated salary for the position is Rs.70,000 to Rs.90,000 as per UGC norms for the Professor grade. Additional research grants are available for approved projects, with overheads permitted for consumables, travel, and student stipends. Contingency funds for conference participation are also provided annually.
