About Dev Public School | Basantpur

DEV Public School, Basantpur, has been a familiar name on the streets of Janjgir for as long as many of us can remember. Though the walls are only a few years old, the idea of a school that belongs to the village and its people was seeded decades ago, when a group of teachers and parents first gathered under the shade of a mango tree to discuss the future of their children. Over time that conversation turned into a building, a playground, and a place where the sounds of school bells blend with the rhythm of daily life in Janjgir Champa. Being affiliated with the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education ties us to the state’s standards while allowing us to keep the flavor of our own community alive.

Our values are simple and rooted in everyday practice. We believe that a child learns best when respect, honesty and a love for learning are shown in small actions—whether it is a teacher greeting a student by name, a parent volunteering in the library, or a senior pupil helping a junior with a math problem. The school has become a meeting point for families, festivals, and local events, so that education is not an isolated activity but part of the village’s larger story. When the harvest season arrives, the school grounds often host community gatherings, and the same sense of togetherness is reflected in the way we treat each other inside the classrooms.

In the classroom, learning is guided by curiosity rather than rote memorisation. Teachers encourage questions, use stories from the local environment, and connect lessons to the fields, markets and temples that students see every day. A typical day might start with a Hindi lesson, move on to a science experiment that uses water from the nearby canal, and end with a Hindi poetry recitation that draws on the folk traditions of Chhattisgarh. Outside the classroom, students spend time on the playground, help maintain the school garden, and take part in cultural programs that celebrate our regional heritage. By the time they leave DEV Public School, they carry not only textbook knowledge but also a sense of belonging to Janjpur and a confidence that they can contribute to the community that raised them.
