About Delhi Public School | Leh

Teaching at Delhi Public School, Leh feels like stepping into a community where the mountains shape the rhythm of daily life as much as the timetable does. The school sits on the edge of the Indus valley, framed by snow‑capped peaks that are visible from every classroom window. In the mornings, a crisp breeze follows us down the corridor as students gather for the national anthem, and by afternoon the thin air carries the distant call of prayer bells from the nearby monastery. The setting is unmistakably Ladakhi, and it infuses everything we do—from the way we celebrate Losar to the way we adapt lesson plans for the short winter days.

Our academic culture is rooted in the CBSE framework but encourages flexibility that respects the local context. Teachers are expected to deliver the core curriculum with rigor, yet we have the freedom to weave in project‑based learning that reflects the environment—students might calculate glacier melt rates in a science class or map traditional trade routes in geography. The faculty team is small enough that collaboration is natural; you’ll find colleagues swapping ideas over tea in the staff lounge, often while the sun sets behind the Himalayas. Professional development is encouraged, and the school routinely invites experts on topics ranging from digital pedagogy to sustainable tourism, ensuring that our teaching stays current.

The students at DPS Leh are a mix of children from the city’s administrative families, local traders, and a growing number of expatriates who have moved here for work. They are curious, resilient, and accustomed to the challenges of high altitude life, which translates into a quiet determination in the classroom. Many arrive with a strong grounding in their mother tongue—Ladakhi or Urdu—while also being fluent in English, making bilingual instruction a rewarding part of the day. Their enthusiasm for outdoor learning is evident; a history lesson may end with a trek to a nearby fort, and a mathematics class can turn into a real‑world exercise measuring the slope of a mountain path.

For a teacher, a typical day starts with a brief staff meeting where we share updates on student progress and any logistical quirks—like adjusting schedules for sudden snowstorms. Lessons flow into periods of hands‑on activity, followed by moments of reflection where students discuss what they observed in the playground or during a field visit. After school, there are often clubs, sports, or community service projects that teachers help supervise, offering a chance to build deeper
