About Guru Nanak Foundation Public School

When I first heard about Guru Nanak Foundation Public School back in the early 2000s, it was mainly because a friend of mine had a child in the senior section and kept talking about how the school seemed different from the other CBSE schools in Patiala. The building on Sular Road is easy to spot; it has those bright windows and a modest sign that reads “Guru Nanak Foundation Public School” in both English and Punjabi. What struck me most was the way the teachers seemed to know each child’s name, their strengths and the little things that make a difference—something you rarely see in a school that runs from nursery all the way to class XII. The principal, Jasjeet Sohi, is a familiar face around the campus, always willing to chat about the curriculum or a student’s progress, and that personal touch makes a big difference for parents who want to be sure their kids are in good hands.

Academically, the school follows the CBSE board, but it doesn’t feel like a textbook‑driven machine. The smart classrooms are equipped with interactive boards, and the science labs are always buzzing with experiments that go beyond the standard syllabus. My son’s class XI friends often tell me about the computer lab where they get to work on real‑world projects, not just practice typing. The teachers are usually graduates from reputable colleges, many of them with years of experience in teaching at the secondary level. They tend to be people who love the subject they teach—whether it’s mathematics, English or physics—and they bring that enthusiasm into the classroom. You can tell they’re chosen not just for their qualifications but also for how they interact with the students, encouraging questions and sometimes even staying after school to help with a tricky problem.

What really earned my family’s trust was the consistency over the years. The school was set up in April 1993, but the managing trust dates back to 1965, so there’s a long history of community involvement. Families in Patiala have seen several batches of students go on to good colleges, and the school’s record in district and state level sports—especially weightlifting and gymnastics—shows they care about more than just exam scores. The library is a quiet corner where kids can actually find books they want, and the activity room hosts art, music and drama sessions that keep the children engaged. Whenever we call the office at 0175‑2220293, we get a prompt response, and the staff always seem to know exactly what we need.
