About Panabeda Higher Secondary School | Odisha

When Arjun stepped onto the dusty lane that leads to Panabeda Higher Secondary School for the first time, the hills of Chandahandi seemed to close in around him, but the school’s red‑brick façade offered a sense of belonging that was new to many children from the surrounding villages. He was one of a handful of boys and girls from tribal families who had travelled a half‑day walk just to sit in a classroom that bore the CBSE emblem—a promise of a curriculum that stretched far beyond the local primary schools. They know each student’s name, the language they speak at home, and the stories that shape their world. Mathematics lessons are peppered with real‑life examples drawn from the local market, while English sessions often involve reading stories that reflect the very hills and forests the students call home. In the science labs, a handful of beakers and a shared microscope become portals to experiments that make the distant concepts of chemistry and biology feel tangible. The teachers, many of whom have grown up in the same block, balance the demands of the CBSE syllabus with a sensitivity to the students’ need to help their families, allowing flexible timings for those who must tend to chores after school.

As Arjun moved from Grade 8 to the senior secondary wing, the school’s role in his life shifted from simply delivering knowledge to shaping his aspirations. The addition of Grades 11 and 12 opened a corridor to professional courses and competitive exams that were once imagined only in distant towns. Guidance sessions, often held under the shade of a large banyan tree, helped him chart a path toward engineering, while the school’s participation in state‑level science fairs gave him a
