Doaba Oublic School

Doaba Public School sits on the Chandigarh‑Pathankot highway just beside the new bus stand in Mahilpur, a part of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, and it has been serving families from the town of Dohlron and the surrounding villages for more than four decades. Most of the students come from farming and small‑business backgrounds, and the school has become a familiar landmark for parents who want their children to have a solid grounding before stepping out into the wider world.

The school opened its doors in 1979, thanks to the vision of the late Sardar Balwant Singh Sandhu, whose belief that education could shape a nation still echoes through the corridors. His wife, Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, now chairs the institution, and the leadership has passed through a few steady hands – S. Joginder Singh was the first principal, Harjinder Singh Gill took over in 1981 and gave the school its early reputation, and Arun Gupta has been at the helm since 2017. Over the years the school moved from a Punjab School Education Board affiliation in 1997 to the Central Board of Secondary Education in 2007 (Affiliation No. 1630416), which opened up a broader curriculum for the students.

Spread over about 9,600 square metres, the campus feels spacious enough for a school that now offers classes from Nursery right up to Class 12. There are smart classrooms that make lessons interactive, well‑equipped computer and science labs, and a two‑acre sports field where cricket, football and athletics take place. The senior secondary section offers the usual streams – PCM, PCB, Commerce and Humanities – so students can choose a path that matches their interests.

In recent years the school has picked up a few recognitions that make the community proud, such as the British Council Award for International Dimensions in Schools for 2025‑2028, and a steady stream of medals in district athletics and cultural competitions. For teachers, the mix of modern facilities and a supportive local atmosphere means they can try new methods without losing the personal connection that families value. For students, the combination of a clear academic structure under CBSE and
